Types of fire hose boxes
- Single door hose box: holds one hose and a branch pipe. Essel offers light duty and heavy duty boxes, Armorfire offers mild steel boxes in 450 x 600 x 250 mm and 450 x 450 x 250 mm and an FRP box in 450 x 600 x 250 mm, and NewAge a single wall mounted cabinet.
- Double door hose box: holds two hoses and nozzles, usually beside a double outlet landing valve or at a yard hydrant. Armorfire makes it in MS or FRP at 750 x 600 x 250 mm. AAAG makes the 252 double door cabinet in 16 or 18 SWG mild steel, 750 or 900 mm wide. NewAge offers a double size cabinet.
How to choose a fire hose box
- Single or double: match the box to the number of hoses at that point. A single outlet landing valve usually needs one hose; a double outlet valve needs two.
- Material: mild steel boxes are strong and the usual choice indoors. FRP (fibreglass) boxes do not rust, so they suit coastal sites, chemical plants and outdoor yards.
- Sheet thickness: in AAAG cabinets, 16 SWG is thicker sheet than 18 SWG and suits heavy use. Essel offers a light and a heavy duty grade.
- Size: check the wall space and that the box can take the hose roll and branch pipe you plan to keep inside.
Mount the box beside the landing valve so the hose can be connected fast, and keep the front clear.
