How a beam detector works
A beam smoke detector sends an infrared beam across a room. When smoke rises into the beam, the light that reaches the receiver drops and the detector raises the alarm. One beam can cover a long, wide strip of a hall, so it replaces a row of point smoke detectors on a high ceiling.
In a reflective beam detector the transmitter and receiver sit in one head, with a reflector fixed on the far wall. That means wiring at one end only, which saves time and cable.

How to choose a beam detector
- Range: measure the distance from the head to the far wall and pick a model whose range covers it with some margin. Use the 50 m version for shorter spaces.
- Panel type: choose the addressable or conventional version that suits your fire alarm panel; the GST DI-9105E is for GST addressable panels.
- Mounting: fix the head and reflector on solid walls or columns that do not move, as building sway or loose brackets cause faults.
- Where to use: warehouses, factory sheds, atriums, auditoriums, malls, airport halls and places of worship.
