FRLS stands for flame retardant, low smoke: the outer sheath is made to slow the spread of flame along the cable and give off less smoke if it burns, which matters on escape routes and in shafts. The Polycab cable has two 1.5 sq mm copper cores and steel armour that protects it from damage, so it can run on walls, trays and outdoors. The red sheath makes fire alarm wiring easy to tell apart from other services.
