Types of fire hose pipe
- RRL fire hose (reinforced rubber lined): the common delivery hose for hydrant systems and hose boxes, 63 mm, in Type A and Type B. Armorfire, AAAG, SafePro and Essel offer RRL hoses, most with couplings fitted.
- Non-percolating hose: NewAge offers Type 1 (Premier), Type 2 (Premier Extra) and Type 3 (Pyroprotect), 63 mm x 15 m.
- Percolating hose: the NewAge Watershield hose lets a little water seep through the jacket, so it stays wet and resists heat and embers.
- CP fire hose: Safety One Type B CP hose, 63 mm x 30 m, with stainless steel couplings fitted.
- Hose reel hose: Armorfire thermoplastic hose reel tubing in 30 m rolls, 20 mm or 25 mm bore, red or black, for hose reel drums.

How to choose a fire hose
- Type A or Type B: both are 63 mm RRL hoses. Type B is the heavier hose of the two and is often picked for yards, industrial sites and frequent use, while Type A suits internal hydrant points. Check the maker's rating for working pressure on the product page.
- Length: 15 m is the usual length for a hose box. AAAG also offers 7.5 m, and SafePro and Safety One offer 30 m. Use two hoses joined by couplings for longer runs.
- Coupling material: gunmetal couplings are heavy and long-lasting; stainless steel couplings resist rust. Keep the same 63 mm instantaneous type across valves, hoses and branch pipes.
- Where it is used: hose boxes beside landing valves in buildings, yard hydrants in factories, and fire tenders. For first aid use by staff, a hose reel with 20 mm or 25 mm hose is easier to handle.
Store each hose rolled, dry and away from sunlight in a fire hose box, and keep spare hose couplings for repairs.
