Types of landing valves
A landing valve (also called a hydrant valve) sits on the riser or hydrant main and gives a 63 mm instantaneous outlet for the fire hose. The main choice is the number of outlets.
- Single outlet landing valve (Type A): one 63 mm outlet, often in an oblique pattern. It is the common valve for internal hydrants on each floor of a building. Inlets in this range include 75 mm and 3 inch flanged types.
- Double outlet landing valve (Type B): two 63 mm outlets so two hoses can run from one point. It is used at yard hydrants and higher-risk areas, usually with a 100 mm or 4 inch flanged inlet.
- Double headed hydrant valve: Bhavi makes these with a cast iron body and SS parts, and in SS-202 and SS-304.
- Threaded landing valve: SafePro offers a 1.5 inch gunmetal valve with a screwed connection, for lines where the drawing calls for a threaded joint.
How to choose a landing valve
- Material: gunmetal is heavy and traditional. Stainless steel resists rust: commercial SS is the budget grade, SS-202 and SS-304 are higher grades. Bhavi also offers cast iron body valves with heavy duty SS parts.
- Duty grade: Bhavi lists commercial and heavy duty versions. Heavy duty suits factories and yards with frequent use.
- Inlet and PCD: match the flange to your riser. Bhavi offers a 160 PCD version and versions with an adaptor.
- Where it is used: single outlet valves for internal hydrants in housing societies, offices and hospitals; double outlet valves for external hydrants, stand posts and plants.
